The Anointed Class, 3rd Playtest
Today the Anointed class comes roaring back into active development. Originally created in a flash of fever after I got hooked on Hades, this class takes inspiration from that game, Exalted, and stories of semi-divine heroes throughout the world.
Though they do so rarely, it is within the gods’ power to lend a fragment of their might to mortals. Such mortals are called the anointed and they wield the powers of not just one god but the entire pantheon. By tapping mana, a sublime energy that flows throughout the multiverse, they can leverage the divine boons they’ve been gifted to surpass mortal limits. During times of extreme duress the anointed can enter apotheosis, a state that brings them even closer to the gods and dramatically enhances their abilities.
The process of anointing a mortal cannot be undone. Once a god gives the gift, the anointed can choose to continue to pursue the god’s goals, abandon them, or even turn the gods own power against them.
The anointed is a half caster class with three defining characteristics:
Mana. The anointed tap a divine power that suffuses the multiverse, mana. Using this power they are able to work miracles and cast spells without the rigidity of spell slots.
Apotheosis. In times of need, the anointed can enter apotheosis to achieve even greater power. While in apotheosis, the anointed access a store of personal magical power and are surrounded by phantasmal images iconic of their godly allies.
Divine Boons. The powers of the anointed are gifts from their deific benefactor and other gods besides. As the anointed grow in power they become godlike themselves, eventually creating gifts they can share with other anointed that represent their own motifs and legend.
