Last month we released our first attempt at tweaking the content of the Player’s Handbook with our Sorcerer Revisited followed up two weeks ago with a handful of possible revisions to the Path of the Berserker. Today we take a look at another piece of content in the Player’s Handbook that’s often thought of as lower tier in terms of balance and style than the book as a whole – the Way of the Four Elements archetype for the Monk class.
The biggest complaint you see about this archetype is that while other monk archetypes get features which are additive (strictly adding to the capability of the monk without a cost) the Way of the Four Elements’ features are alternative (they provide alternative ways of spending the monk’s limited ki resource). In this week’s Way of the Four Elements Revisited we imagine the archetype as a third-caster in the same vein as the Eldritch Knight and the Arcane Trickster. Since I got bored and wanted to write more, there are also four new spells!
And just incase you missed the announcement last week, our Sterling Vermin Adventuring Co. Anthology is part of the second DM’s Guild Megabundle. $9.95 for a whole lot of goodness – check it out!
